MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH – Matt Coso, Sales Engineer at Ohio’s Haas Factory Outlet – A Division of Midwest Manufacturing Resources, recently presented Polaris Career Center with a $12,500 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation, for the school’s Precision Machining Technology program. The grant will go towards student scholarships as well as an expansion of the school’s machine lab. Accepting the grant along with students was Vice Principle, Bill Evans.
The Precision Machining Technology program at Polaris Career Center introduces 11th and 12th grade high school students to the exciting field of precision machining. Using the latest CAD software, students create 2D and 3D models which they are then able to machine on the school’s fully automated Haas CNC vertical machining centers and turning centers.
During this two-year program, students are also able to earn nationally recognized certification from the National Institute of Metal Forming Skills (NIMS). During their second year, students may also be placed in a part-time position at a member company where hours worked apply toward an apprenticeship. This program is a practical step in acquiring a two- or four-year technical degree.
