New Y-Axis ST-20SSY Turning Center from Haas Automation

The ability to turn and mill complex parts and perform multiple operations on one machine in a single setup increases throughput, reduces handling and improves accuracy. The new ST-20SSY from Haas Automation is a high-speed turning center equipped with Y axis, C axis, and live-tooling to provide a powerful 4-axis solution for secondary machining of turned parts.

The ST-20SSY has a maximum cutting capacity of 10" x 20.5", with maximum swings of 31.75" over the front apron and 20.75" over the cross slide. It provides 4" of Y-axis travel (±2" from the centerline) for off-center milling, drilling, and tapping, and comes standard with high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C axis for versatile 4-axis capability. The 24-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret indexes tools in 0.5 second for reduced cycle times.

Equipped with an A2-6 spindle nose, the ST-20SSY has a 3.5" spindle bore and a bar capacity of 2.0"; an 8.3" hydraulic 3-jaw chuck is standard. The machine’s 30 hp vector dual-drive spindle spins to 5000 rpm, and provides 115 ft-lb of torque at 1380 rpm. On-the-fly wye-delta switching yields a wide constant-horsepower band for constant surface feed cuts. Rapids are 1200 ipm on the Z axis, 945 ipm on the X axis, and 710 ipm on the Y axis.

Additional standard equipment on the ST-20SSY includes rigid tapping, spindle orientation, a 15" color LCD monitor, and a USB port. Other available equipment includes a belt-type chip conveyor, programmable hydraulic tailstock, automatic tool probe, an automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems, and more.

Built in the USA by Haas, the ST-20SSY turning center is backed by the worldwide network of Haas Factory Outlets – the most extensive system of support and service in the industry. For more information about Haas Automation and Haas products, visit www.HaasCNC.com.
